چکیده

The significant progress made in the context of iron-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions past several years has boosted competition with well-known nickel and palladium catalyst systems. Iron-catalyzed protocols not only benefit from economic toxicology standpoints, but also exhibit a range reactivities tolerate many functional groups. To date iron systems have been developed, ranging use simple salts to more complex stoichiometric/catalytic modifiers. Effective N-heterocyclic carbenes bisphosphine ligands developed for organic electrophiles using diverse organometallic reagents. Indeed, field is important new applications modern synthetic chemistry. This account summarizes recent developments practical novel employing bulky o-phenylene their mechanistic views.

Iron-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions.

Simple iron salts such as FeCl(n), Fe(acac)(n) (n = 2,3) or the salen complex 4 turned out to be highly efficient, cheap, toxicologically benign, and environmentally friendly precatalysts for a host of cross-coupling reactions of alkyl or aryl Grignard reagents, zincates, or organomanganese species with aryl and heteroaryl chlorides, triflates, and even tosylates. An "inorganic Grignard reagent...

Electronic Structure and Bonding in Iron(II) and Iron(I) Complexes Bearing Bisphosphine Ligands of Relevance to Iron-Catalyzed C–C Cross-Coupling

Chelating phosphines are effective additives and supporting ligands for a wide array of iron-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions. While recent studies have begun to unravel the nature of the in situ-formed iron species in several of these reactions, including the identification of the active iron species, insight into the origin of the differential effectiveness of bisphosphine ligands in cataly...

Triazole-based monophosphine ligands for palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions of aryl chlorides.

A variety of triazole-based monophosphines (ClickPhos) have been prepared via efficient 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of readily available azides and acetylenes. Their palladium complexes provided excellent yields in the amination reactions and Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reactions of unactivated aryl chlorides. Ligand 7i, which has a 2,6-dimethoxybenzene moiety, provided good results in Suzuki-Miyaura...

New insights into the mechanism of iron-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions.

The mechanism of the iron-catalyzed cross-coupling of alkyl halides with aryl Grignard reagents is studied by a combination of GC monitoring and DFT calculation. Herein, we investigate two possible reaction pathways, the regular oxidative addition (OA) pathway and the atom transfer (AT) pathway that might occur in the rate-limiting step. The computational studies revealed that the AT pathway re...

Formal ring-opening/cross-coupling reactions of 2-pyrones: iron-catalyzed entry into stereodefined dienyl carboxylates.

Open access: Despite the exceptional level of sophistication in cross-coupling chemistry, reactions of substrates that incorporate the leaving group as an integral part into a heterocyclic scaffold are scarce. The title reaction outlines the utility of this reaction format (see scheme; acac=acetylacetonate), provides a convenient entry into stereodefined diene carboxylates, and adds a new chapt...
